BANFF BEARS JUNIOR RUGBY - THERE’S A PLACE FOR EVERYONE IN OUR DEN
The Banff Bears are dedicated to cultivating the true spirit of rugby— a sport built on camaraderie, respect, and a deep-rooted sense of belonging.
Whether you’re a seasoned player or picking up a ball for the first time, you are part of the Bears family from the moment you step onto the field.
Our Core Philosophy
Rugby is a game for everyone. We pride ourselves on creating an inclusive environment where every body type, every background, and every ability level is celebrated. Our goal is to foster a "club for life" mentality, ensuring our players develop a love for the game that lasts long after they leave our junior ranks.
At every age level, our mission is simple: To develop great rugby players, and even better humans. Come run with the Bears and find out why rugby is the ultimate team sport.
What We Prioritize:
A Culture of Belonging: We don't just build teams; we build a family. Every player is valued, supported, and encouraged to be their best self.
Safe & Skillful Growth: Through a safe, age-appropriate, and progressive introduction to contact, we build physical confidence and resilience.
Character Over Trophies: The score sheet is secondary. Our athletes learn the importance of accountability, sportsmanship, acting with integrity.
Lifelong Participation: We aim to ignite a passion for the sport that follows our athletes into adulthood—connecting them to a global community of rugby enthusiasts.
The Bear Standard: We respect teammates, honour our officials and always clap our opponents off the field. We play with heart, we train with purpose, and we always have fun.

Item description
-
Rugby is a contact sport, and our program is designed to safely introduce players to tackling and other forms of contact in an age-appropriate way.
We don’t offer a separate non-contact stream, but our coaches can make adjustments and modify activities when needed. Player safety, confidence, and development are always the priority, and we support athletes as they progress at their own pace.

We use email newsletters for club-wide notifications and information.

While we try to keep our registration rates the most competitive and affordable of all minor sports, we also recognize there can still exist financial barriers to sport. We recommend the following programs, and encourage anyone who is in need to apply:
1. Jumpstart - This program is meant for those who need some help paying for their rugby fees.
2. Kidsport Bow Valley - Often works alongside Jumpstart. Families in Lake Louise, Banff, Canmore, Stoney Nakoda, or the M.D. of Bighorn can apply for up to $500 per year at KidSport Bow Valley.
3. Local Assistance:
Banff Residents: Contact the Town of Banff Children & Youth Program Coordinator at 403-762-1126 or community.services@banff.ca
